Civil War "artifacts" recovered by Capt'n Seaweed on Roanoke Island (NC)

In February of 1862, Union General Ambrose Burnside landed 7,000 troops on the shores of tiny Roanoke Island (NC) and captured three Confederate forts, thereby controlling the coast of NC during the remainder of the Civil War. The sixty sailing vessels used by the Union army constituted the largest amphibious troop landing ever, until that time.
